Energy Drinks: Great for My Anxiety Control Business

My new client came in today for an assessment. He told me a story about what happened to him 6 weeks ago. A “panic attack” hit him like a ton of bricks. All of a sudden, his heart started to race, his blood pressure shot up, the feelings of fear and dread shot to the front of his consciousness, his stomach cramped, he began to perspire, he thought he was having a heart attack and would die. After his trip to the emergency room for tests, he was told that his heart was fine and that he was not going to die from this anxiety attack. His doctor prescribed Xanax to be taken at the first hint of another “attack” and she told him to make an appointment for an anxiety management program. After 4 weeks of consideration, he called and made an appointment. He was tired of fearing another attack and this fear was getting in the way of his concentration and quality of life.
So as we sat there the story began to unfold. His life was stressful. On a scale of 1-10, to him, his stress seemed like a “9.” To me, his life looked like a relatively normal “4 or 5.” The “attack” happened when he was out of town visiting some friends on a warm summer’s day. He had not been sleeping very well and he was “burning the candle at both ends” to make the best use of his visit and vacation time. To help him “keep up,” he decided that 2 or 3 energy drinks would be a good idea. WRONG! The jolt of caffeine and sugar sent him into a “scary place.” When I suggested that the energy drinks and caffeine may have triggered his anxiety attack he looked surprised. He had not thought about the possible impact of this new social phenomenon of slammin’ energy drinks. In fact, many of my panic/anxiety clients do not realize the impact of caffeine on their health, especially their anxiety attacks. Coffee drinks including expresso’s often create the physical jolt that leads to the anxiety attack. This is not rocket science! This is OBVIOUS!
Why are there so many new sleep medications and anxiety control products? ’cause we are an over-caffeinated society! The most popular article I have ever contributed to the online website Ezinearticles.com has been the article regarding caffeine caused anxiety attacks. People are interested and they need to know why they are not sleeping and why they are “Freakin’” with anxiety attacks. Yes our society is stressful, but energizing ourselves with the drug stimulant called caffeine does not answer most of our challenges. The contrary can be true.
So my client started my behavioral anxiety management program which included temperature training biofeedback AND reduced caffeine consumption. The adjustment will be awkward at first, but within 4-6 weeks he will reap the benefits. See my other articles regarding the details of my panic/anxiety control program if you require additional information.
Please take good care of yourself and remember the negative potential of consuming “Energy Drinks.”
