New Chemotherapy or the Sword of Damocles
23rd April, 2010 - Posted by L. John Mason -
Will the new chemotherapy show promising results or does it bode poorly for our future. We have exhausted the traditional options in fighting back against the attack of cancer but we are not ready to give in. There is still more living to do. There are still more plants to plant and weeds to pull. There are still more visits with family and friends. There are still more trips. There are still more sunsets to toast and eagles to observe. We will not know what the future will bring with staving off the disease that has been our constant companion for the past eight years but with optimism, and our style of denial, we battle on against our formidable opponent.
There are more questions than answers. Dealing with unknown is stressful. Uncertainty is not reassuring. So viewing the future in positive ways is difficult and awkward though some people can do this better than others… and again, there is no other option but to be positive and have faith. We are not ready to cave in to fear and negative thinking. It always helps to have support, not false support and feigned cheerfulness. Unconditional love is good but not always easy to find.
Planning is not easy when there is uncertainty regarding the future. Time is what we wish for, but it is not always our friend.
For all of us, there will ultimately be the time to “let go,” but when and how best to do this is a conundrum.
We will all face our ultimate transition in our own unique way. My wish is that each one of us finds the very best way to live and to get the very most from every moment we have available to us. Being present and celebrating the moment is not easy when we are confronted by pain, anxiety and life plans that do not go as expected but it is our challenge in life. Celebrate Life! Celebrate your family and friends. Celebrate the Love that comes your way.
